Vancouver, BC – Written October 31, 2023 – Back in 1980, Alexander von Humboldt School in Montreal opened its doors in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. The school year started with 22 students and increased to 29 during the term. Fast forward to 2019, and they continue to qualify as an “Exzellente Auslandsschule” (German School Abroad of Excellence) following another inspection of the quality framework. Their certificate is presented to them by the German Consulate General in Montreal during the annual Christmas Bazaar.
This year, they are happy to announce that the after a 2-year hiatus, the AvH German Christmas Market is back – a celebration of the Holiday Season!
Inspired by Christmas markets in Germany, this annual event transforms AvH School into a picturesque village with artisanal chalets, traditional dishes, and an enchanting atmosphere.
Visitors can enjoy handmade ornaments, German cuisine, and festive activities for young and old alike!

This major fundraiser relies on the essential contribution of volunteers for its success. Without the dedicated commitment of numerous volunteers, this event simply could not take place. International School – Three Languages – Two School Diplomas
AvH is a member of a network of over 140 German schools abroad. In 2012, we were awarded the official “Excellent School Abroad” seal of approval by the German government. We are recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec. Therefore, we can offer two degrees: the internationally respected and globally recognized German International baccalauréat (Abitur), which allows a seamless transition to university studies, as well as the Quebec Secondary School Diploma, which leads to CEGEP. Our school’s academic success is clearly reflected in the fact that our graduates go on to the world’s leading universities.
Since its founding in 1980, AvH has been educating students of German, Canadian and international origin.
